Crayfish tank size

Is 50gal. enough for six crawfish? The geeks at Petco said 10gal. was good enough but I do not trust that would properly fit all six.

A 50 gallon probably would work only if you provide individual hides for them. I agree 10 gallons no go for 6 crayfish.

50 should enough i think, never kept that many personally but what's most important is lots of caves, rocks, sticks, driftwood, space to explore and territories to claim.

I've even used hamster cage tubes and lookouts for them before, they loved them

Thanks. I have the items for hiding places. I just wanted to make sure 50g's could comfortably fit those little freaks.

They're fairly messy critters in my experience so like any tank is going to depend on keeping up with maintenance.

Good lids are very important covering all possible exits… any chance to escape and they will. Kept them as a kid in my 3rd floor bedroom. I once found one dried up months later in the basement … pretty amazing for a 4” cray to make it down 3 flights of stairs

How has no one asked what species we're talking about? Tank size very much depends on species.

I've had a few species of crayfish over the last few decades. My experience has been that they do not play well with others and if there are a half dozen of them in a 50g there will probably be a pretty good scrap or two in that tank.

I assume this is a cray only tank? They'll capture and eat anything else you put in there.

They'll capture and eat each other, too.

What species? I 10 gallon, in my opinion, is the smallest tank I would keep P. Alleni.
