Can anybody tell me where I can buy a Crenicichla sp. 'Xingu I'? I have had a tough time trying to figure out which species is what in the pike cichlid family. I have bought pike cichlids that were miss labeled before and one's that weren't what I wanted because they always seem to be baies, so it's hard to tell what you acyually have. I have researhed this and finally figured the one I want is the Crenicichla sp. 'Xingu I'. I have also noticed that the Atabapo II" is not actually red it's the Atabapo I" is the one that is very red. The Atabapo I and the 'Xingu I' are both very similar in that there both super red but I would prefer the Xingu I. Can anybody tell me where I can get them Localy in Ma?

try uncle neds or lovely pets, they both usually get some good stock. if they dont have it try looking online

Just to verify, you do know that "Xingu I" is commonly sold as an orange pike? You might have better luck finding this particular species under its common name.

I have bought pike cichlids that were listed as orange pike cichlids and they turned out to be Crenichichla sp. orange "Venezuela. It's very hard to know what your getting when you buy these guys when there young unless your an expert. I checked with uncle beds and lovely pets too. Thanks for the sugestions. I also checked Snook21's page. Nobody has them right now. Anybody else?

Thanks Snook. Keep me posted. Snook, I here your the pike expert. Is it true that the female Xingu I is much more colorful then the male? Also how about the crenicichla sp. atabapo I (fire red)?

You want a red pike, go for Cr. sp. 'tapajos I'. Males and females both sport an uber vibrate red coloration. Cr. sp. 'tapajos II' (cobra) also has a lot of red, although the females are the ones that show the most.

Cr. sp. 'atabapo I' is definitely the REDDEST of the atabapo pikes. Simply gorgeous. :)

Female sp. 'xingu I' are the ones to go for for coloration. Males are an olive/drabbish coloration with reddish fins. Still attractive, but the females take the cake.

Like Mark said, try to find some orange pikes. Thats seriously your best bet, unless you actually order online from some reputable retailer like Snookn21 (John), Rapps, MTN PIKE, or someone off of aquabid like Wetspotcx. Most LFS will only have them listed as orange pikes, you are very lucky if they labeled as sp. 'xingu I' when they are ordering them.

It makes sense. I will keep an eye out for the orange pikes. Hopefully the people selling the orange pikes will provide pictures which always helps a lot too. Thanks for the info guys.
