Morning all,

I currently have two juvenile ctenopoma with two juvenile banjo catfish and two adult midnight catfish in a 200L aquarium.

I'm looking to add a couple more fish to add some movement to the tank that won't get eaten when the ctenopoma grow up, and I've read that small peaceful cichlids make good tankmates. Also my fiancée wants me to add something with colour to brighten it up a bit.

I've been recommended keyhole cichlids, but I've also looked at T-bar cichlids, electric blue acara, and rams.

Does anyone have any experience with these together, or any other suggestions?

The blue acaras and rams will work. I’ve had mine with apistogrammas and it worked fine. I’d suggest some Congo tetras for some movement. The red ones will be nice if looking for something other than a cichlid.

Thanks a lot for the reply, I like apistos but I thought those and the rams might be too small. I've seen conflicting information from different people, but i think half of them have never kept ctenopoma.
Must people I've heard from who have kept them say they're peaceful and don't bother other fish unless they're really small.

Once bigger it’ll pick on smaller fish. Can get away with it for a while. But my group get along with my apisto.

What Apisto do you have? I guess Agassizii will be more suitable than cacatuoides because they get slightly larger?
Have you kept anything else with them?

Mine are with agassizii now and with a gymnotis knife fish. My other larger bush fish are with niggripinis tetras and saxatalis pike cichlids.

Kribs, i have an opaline gourami who bullied mine. No more crazy than a pair of most smaller cichlids ime.

I'm still undecided....such a hard decision, I want them all (and more )

I've just read that rams need a higher temperature, so they're out I guess.

I'm between a pair of Agassizzii, a single blue acara, or a trio of keyhole cichlids.

Do you foresee any issues with any of those additions?
