Decorations in Flowerhorn tank okay?

Building a 4x2 tank for a flowerhorn cichlid. Is it okay to add decoration to this tank, or should it be kept bare?
My idea of "decoration" is just one or two branchy pieces of wood with java moss tied to it. Nothing too crazy at all.

I currently have my flowerhorn in a tank with both plastic plants and real plants and haven't seen any issues. It seems to like swimming through the plants and decorations. I would think driftwood should be fine but I'm not an expert, just my 2 cents.
 
I think you should be fine with that setup. Just worried your fh might eat or tear up the java moss tho. Also depends on the size of your fh. Doesn't hurt to try it. But I'll let the experts chime in.

If he does, I'm not too worried about it. It'll be easy enough to clean out, and not so expensive that I'm gonna cry over having lost it.
Just looking for something to spice the tank up a bit in there. I might not even do it, might just have the sand and background - we'll see though.

I have got nothing in the tank that is sharp or potentially causes any damage to his hump/scales.
Had issues with driftwood and some bubble stones :D

Okay, so maybe no wood in there then. Maybe just background and sand substrate - I will see how that looks, and I can always pick up wood if I decide the tank really needs it - but I don't think bare will look too bad.

What happened with my Flowerhorn is that he tried to stay underneath the driftwood which was really small for him,,, and he got some scales fallen off from his side or hump area.
Also Whenever he got scared he crashed into the wood or bubble stone and get its scales fall off again :(
I mean they all recover within 5 days :D
 
Tank decorations and gravel just hide fish waste and uneaten food. I don't think these fish care. Mine don't
