Die to see the water circulation

I don't think that seeing the water circulation in your tank is something you should be willing to die for...but I'd bet that a food-grade colouring agent sold in grocery stores might work to dye the water some colour that might work for that purpose.

I think there might be a chance that the food dye would discolour or stain the silicone seams, the same way that methylene blue can do. If you go ahead with this, I'd suggest a large-volume water change immediately after your experiment.

Hi i have added a new filter on to my tank and want to check the water flow can you recommend any Die that is fish safe?
Yes sir indeed. I use this when I am playing around with sump and wave maker set up. Forewarning, a little goes a very long way as in use a pipette as this container can treat a swimming pool or large pond. It's rather entertaining to watch. All my tanks use black silicone so I am not sure it will stain clear but in small doses I can't see that being an issue.

I just use some good old mulm and stir it up. It will show you (much better IMO) what your currents are doing and where your dead spots are as it settles. The finer particles stay suspended long enough to give a very good idea of the flow in the tank.
