difference between an escondido texas with common/green texas

i think the "green" texas is just the common name for carpintis "escondido", but im not all that sure with "texas" common names so cant say that for sure, but that was my impression. the common green texas sold in fish stores are either escondidos or a fish store mixture between different variants and probably not one pure variant or another, or something like that

green texas is a general term for carpintas and escondido is a variant of carpintas which is more turquoise in color. I guess it has to do with the location yhe fish lives in the wild.

H. carpintis "Escondido" in the hobby are all descended from fish collected from Cenote Escondido. It's a location. The most beautiful strain of carpintis I think.

i see,so it's all about the location huh?

The splotch patterns are different between the 2 morphs of carpintis. The escondido will have much larger & odd shapred ones.

Most the tex's have been mislabeled and very confusing for the last couple years. The common tex isnt the green tex. The "Texas Cichlid" is the cyano. Carpintis, or green tex, of the same family has a green splattered pattern. Escondido are Carpentis taken from escondido basin. They are much more desirable and rare. There green patterns almost completly cover their bodies and the green veining of the face. carpintis or cyano doesnt get these veins.
