New to polys, here. I keep seeing people refer to a fish as being wild or CB by looking at a picture that doesn't always show any kind of detail. Sometimes they are even blurry! How can you tell? I have asked before, when someone has given their opinion, but I get ignored. I am getting the feeling that some of the people give an opinion and really have no idea. They just want to pretend they are experts. Please prove me wrong. What are the differences? Based on these opinions, it seems like a few "experts" that I won't name, can tell 100% of the time. How?

Try inboxing hao or one of the really known guys that do polys and they maybe able to explain better.

I can't explain it. You will be able to tell once you keep them and see the difference for yourself. I'm not 100% correct on the WC vs CB. :) Infblue, King-eL, Tokyogasmask, those 3 guys could give you details on the difference of WC vs CB.

why dont you try to do your own research besides depending on this site for answers. Not everyone is online all the time to see your questions so you shouldn't be ranting on a thread of other people just because you didn't get your question answered.

- In regards to CB and WC, like Hao, im not 100% correct on the WC vs CB. But for example, a Delhezi that has a mutated head-shape and either "perfect thick symmetrical bars" or a "VERY crazy design" tends to be CB whereas a delhezi with the original headshape, "tiger-like stripes", and green pigments showing are usually wild caught.

Some CB Delhezis can have green pigments, but WC delhezis tend to have green pigments showing from their body.

again, i am not 100% sure between CB vs WC but this is from my experience and my own RESEARCH that i do from communicating with other people AND researching on credible sites.

I do appreciate your input. I thought coming here was coming to a credible site. I do research here, and other sites. I ask questions. That is how I learn. Just like everyone else here. It is supposed to be a place to interact with other hobbyists and teach each other from our experiences and observations. I had asked this question inside of two other threads and was ignored, so I thought I would ask in a stand alone thread. At least it got a response. Thank you.

you're welcome. but what i was stating is that you shouldn't depend on a forum alone. this site may be a credible site but NOT a credible source because most of the answers/responses are opinionated and varies with each person and their experiences. And asking questions in a separate thread isn't wrong. however you shouldn't be ranting that your question got ignored and that other people are "pretending that they are experts" and whatnot. you may not be calling out their names in public but you are indirectly calling them out and that's not okay.

p.s. your reply was very redundant.

Just saying. Peace. you can reply to this however you like but im not going to reply since it's senseless to go on.

When you seen enough bichirs from both sides (wc & cb) you will realise it easy to tell.

We would need a tank full of bichirs and a couple of beers and hrs for me to explain all the subtle differences but here are a few very simple basic rules.

Look out for froggy eyes. CB bichirs tend to have them.

WC bichirs have more define markings (especially ard the cheeks) and nicer colour. CB tend to just be a mess.

Look out for reverse"D" shape fins on their backs. CB bichirs have them while WCs have sharper looking finlets. I dun have good pics of this. But I will try anyway.

Head shape. This is through experience, but WC then to have nicer, boxy, sharper heads. More snake like. If you seen enough, you would understand.

I'm not too good with upper jaws, but for Dels I look out for body shape and markings. It's common for CB dels to have a hump and messy or less markings. But then again, Japan has really nice CB dels. But for me, WC is still the way to go.

At the end of the day, these are just my own exmaples and opinions. If you truly immerse yourself in the poly world, you will see the difference between not just CB and WC but different variants of the same species. Like Nigerian lap vs guinea laps vs Koliba/Kolonton. It takes expreience to tell the difference, but we are not all full of hot air, well, some of us at least.

Beautiful Post Nid Very informative

Nid, that was very informative. One thing that I am curious about, is why these changes happen? Is it because of inbreeding and cross breeding?
Thanks

^that's what im guessing
