I saw one of these at my lfs a while ago, and was wondering what kind of bichir is it exactly, and just how big do these particular ones get?

Polypterus Senegalus or senegal for short are usually the ones called dino bichir by petsmart and other lfs. They typically grow around a foot give or take a few inches.

but just in case, try describing it, maybe they mis-labeled a different bichir, nah just maybe.

mem that senegul has some great yellow going on at the tail!! diet???

yup it looked like the one in your picture. It is a neet looking fish. How would one of those do with a 10-12" Black ghost knife, and some 3" Clown Loaches, and possibly some large angels.

Are senegals an aggressive fish? They look like they can be. Thanks for the help, and good input.

i would say he/she would be fine as long as it isnt to small to fit in the BGKs mouth. i just got one from petsmart last week and it is probly 1.5in and has to be in a 10 gal comunity tank... they will eat whatever can fit in their mouths... but on the contrary i have 2 senegalus in a 65 with 4 1in clown loachs, and they havent eaten any of them, and the bigger polyp is hitin the 5in mark and his mouth is plenty big enough to eat the clown loachs. wouldent worry about the angels. and i dont know about anyone else, but i havent had any agression out of my polys exept at feeding time, they cant quite figure out that the food is dead...

Diet consists of frozen bloodworms, feeder guppies, and some pinhead crickets. Also it is on almost pure white sand. :)

The Senegal in the picture is one of 3 senegals as well as 2 delhezi in that tank atm. Living with some african cichlids.
