I found this article on the cichlid-forum.com a while ago, and I actually installed 5 of them and water tested them this past weekend. Very simple. edit: and the key is getting the gray pvc in the electrical conduit section ;)

Not to derail or be an ass,
but thats a bulkhead FITTING.

Thats one of my pet peeves

Everybody has them:)

I looked at Home Depot and Lowes and neither one had any fittings that were long enough to fit through 3/4" plywood. Maybe I was in the srong section but all the plumbing and piping was there. I took a wander trough the electrical section and the largest grey pvc that they had in stock was only 1" ID. For my DIY 120 I am thinking I will need at least 1.5" ID at a min.
Any other suggestions on where to get the fittings to fit through 3/4" plywood.

A real plumbing supply house...that's where I go when I get fed up with HD & lowes :D. They're usually pretty friendly too, just explain what your doing.

Oh yeah, if you have a jacussi / hot tub store with a repair dept. too.

And remember to call them bulkhead fitting, bulkheads are the walls a submarines doors are in (kinda).

Yep, a bulkhead is a wall or partition. A bulkhead in a sump is actually the dividers. I gave up on educating the masses; there are just too many with in-one-ear-and-out-the-other syndrone.
