I have found a cure for yeast spills from DIY CO2 systems
Yesterday about 20 hours ago i spilled about half a liter of active yeast sugar in water solution from my DIY CO2 system. The mix was new. very new, i had tipped the bottle over as i was setting it down from filling it, new.
I rushed online looking for a solution to my cloudy water. What was found was disjointed and inconclusive with little information. I did find a suggestion that using a water clearing agent would clear up the water. Most of what else i found was about curing yeast infections in women.
This actually turned out to be helpful. There were two homeopathic "cures" for yeast infections in women. one was active culture yogurt which would eat the yeast. the other was garlic clove shoved in the infected area.
Both those bits of info floated around my head as i went to the store to grab a clearing agent. I reckoned that getting the yogurt culture in the aquarium might be dangerous but i didn't know if perhaps i could use garlic with out hurting the fish. When i got back and had dosed the clearing agent i looked online to see if garlic was harmful and as many of you know it is not. in fact many use it to increase appetite in fish. So i cut up a single garlic clove into four pieces length wise (more surface area) and put them in my filter. 6 hours later the cloud was gone.
I had been expecting a much longer battle from what i had read online. i took the garlic out and still at the time of writing not a hint of yeast cloud in the water.
As far as i can gather the clearing agent caused the yeast to clump and decreased its feeding area and hence slowed reproduction. The garlic in the filter hurt the yeast farther and pop no more yeast in the tank.
I hope this is helpful.
