hey everyone i always wanted to try to build a fish bridge from one tank to the other. i have seen it on YouTube and it looks pretty cool. does anyone have any advise on how to do this? thanks for your help!

i am not very knowledgable on the topic but i do know it works on the concept of atmospheric pressure. The atmospheric pressure pushing down on the water surface of the two tanks is what allows the bridge filled water (elevated higher) to keep that portion of water at a higher level.

atmospheric pressure must be > than the water pressure produced by the water column in the fish bridge.

best way to make it work is to have the fish bridge not very high about tank water.
When installing the fish bridge it would be best to prefill the bridge (by holding it upside down and making it a container) and then sealing the entrances with watever you want to use. Then place the bridge into your tank and remove the seals while they are underwater. This should prevent any lose of water and make your water bridge seemless.

i made one out of a clear piece of acyrlic i found at a local plastic shop. It was 6 feet long and 6 inches in diameter and went from one 10 gallon tank to another. I did it more for the experiment of it and it never really looked too nice, but the fish did use it. I had a betta and at a seperate time a gold gourami use it and they would drift back and forth in the tube all of the time, patrolling their territory.

To get the air out you can use a siphon tube and suck it out of the tube and the aquarium water will eventually fill it up.

I eventually took it apart and when i got a black ghost knife put it in the big tank so he could use it as his cave, but i could still see him.

I have some pictures of it on this thread: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/f...-Connecting-tanks-anyone-seen-this-or-done-it

Just a little general info, atmospheric pressure is a big part of hit, but also waters ability to stick to itself also helps pull it it along and hold it up out of the tank. Combining those two forces water will work as a siphon, but different factors will limit how high up you can build the siphon. Just see how high of a siphon you'll need and try it out before you make the whole thing. Probably already knew that but doesnt hurt to mention. Good luck and let us know how it goes. Ive always like the idea of siphon connections between tanks. Kinda like those hamster mazes they connect cages with, but messier if they dont connect well :)
