The only plecos i have access to without having to drive 2 hours is a common pleco. Will they eat those brown diatom patches or should i look for something else?I want to get a 2 of them for my 90 and 125 gallon tanks.

I do believe they will eat brown diatoms. Just a word of warning though, they grow quite large so it would be a bit of a bioload to your ninety.

if possible i have a bristlenose that cleared a tank absolutely covered in diatom algae in less than 2 days. it's awesome

yes they do, but you will find your diatom problem replaced with a long stringy poop problem.

i think they need some quantity of wood to help with digestion. also they cant live for long on algae alone

Is the bristlenose also called a bushynose?
