Does anyone know what this stuff is? It all over the driftwood, the tank is cycling so it is empty but I am worried about!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It's a fungus/biofilm. A lot of people actually intentionally get driftwood for this (mostly shrimp/sucker mouth catfish keepers). It's harmless and nothing to be concerned about. Snails, plecos, otocinclus, shrimp, etc. will take care of it. If you don't have those, then just ignore it and it will go away on it's own, if you really want them you could remove the piece of driftwood and scrub it off, but that's not necessary.

Okay, as long it nothing harmful than everything is good, there will be a clown pleco, otocinlus, cories, and shrimp in the tank when I stock it, but as of now it has only been cycling for about a month and I want to give it some more time; figured I would start getting fish in the spring once the tank is about 5 month old. Thanks guys, I’ll be able to sleep tonight!

Don't worry it won't last much after adding the fish
