I have a can of krill that was opened about a year ago. Is it still safe to feed it to my fish? How about pellets that have been opened but zip lock sealed for a year?

How does it smell, musty? Any discoloration or softness? Most importantly has it stayed dry?
If the smell, appearance, or texture is off then discard it. If it got damp discard it.
Freeze dried , flake, and pellet foods can spoil due to fungus if damp. I would discard it if it were mine.

I would throw away the stuff if it was just a little bit but I bought a one pound can of krill worth $50 a year ago. Then, due to unexpected events, I couldn't finish it off.

It does still smell normal and it has remained dry in a rubbermaid container. I just wonder if the food lost its nutritional value. Any input would be appreciated!

hmm.. i dont think it would have lost its nutritional value but its moistness and palatability to fish could have gone if it wasnt packed tightly.

As long as it was protected from air and moisture, and still smells okay and shows no discoluration it should be okay, but as redtailfool said, it may have lost palatabilty if loosely packed. All you can do is try it, just look it over well for fungus spotting or mold before using.

Thanks! I did check the food and everything appears and smells normal. Very happy to get back into the hobby. What I did to store the food is dry out poland spring water bottles throughly and close the caps very tightly. I think this method preserved it relatively well. Just wanted to hear opinions from others. Thanks for the help guys.

When it comes to dried foods, anything will basically last for years unless moisture somehow enters it's container. Then it can go bad.
