I know they didn't a few years ago, but I can't seem to find any recent literature. I'm aware that its popularity is fairly recent, but they don't use it in the part of Florida where my school is. Anyone know about New York City?

I would like to know too :D

Glad they didn't back when I was 5 or 6 and had fish

Edit: You can call the water company and ask...I might for fun lol

Tampa has added chloramine since the 80's. They say they did it to reduce the trihalomethane found when chlorine combines with the tannic acid in the Hillsborough River. Supposedly it's a carcinogen.

As for NYC here's an excerpt from their publication
http://nyc.gov/html/dep/pdf/wsstate09.pdf

"Drinking water entering New York City’s distribution system is treated with chlorine, fluoride, food grade phosphoric acid and, in some cases, sodium hydroxide. New York City uses chlorine to meet the New York State Sanitary Code SDWA disinfection requirements. Fluoride, added since 1966, at a concentration of one part per million, in accordance with the New York City Health Code, helps prevent tooth decay. Phosphoric acid is added to create a protective film on pipes that reduces the release of metals such as lead from household plumbing. Sodium hydroxide is added to Catskill/Delaware water to raise the pH and reduce corrosivity."

When I lived in Yonkers all I did back then was add some Novaqua and an airstone for a few minutes and all was good. Lately when I visit the water seems to reek of chlorine. Might be because I am on well water here and don't need to add chlorine.
