My oldest daughter found a small fuzzy little spider in the house one day. It looked like a skinny trantula. Well, I had a real small baby (human) at the time and I may have been in the middle of a nursing session or diaper duty, but my oldest wanted to get rid of it, and I did not want to bother with it so I told her " Just give it to the fish".

I have juv oscars, and one grabbed it, spit it out and another ate it. Both were on the bottom of the tank in a matter of an hour or so, gasping for breath, then the next morn, one died. The one that died was the eater, the other got over it in a few days.

So now we just squash any spiders and thow them in the trash.
Who would have thought? :screwy:

I would have!
you should add ants and bees to this list as they all have venom, and are capable of killing many different types of fish!!!
Sorry for your loss...

wow i didnt even think about that, thanks for the heads up

weird, i have fed many spiders to my fish and have never ever had any problems at all. maybe ive been lucky but over the years i have sacrificed many a spider to the fish tank....I HATE SPIDERS

It depends on the spider, some can be very hazerdous to your fish. Also, if you had any bug killing agent in your house that the spider may have walked though, that could have been the cause too. So, never feed wild caught bugs to your fish...

Jen ;)

please take no offence here .But if u live in a climate as such .... when it comes to spiders ,sankes , bees ... the ppl who live there should be more infromed

blame Bush ...Mr to lil to late

the most venomus spider is the dady long leg , it teeth just aint long nuff to infect and to small amount of venom

i feed daddy long leg spiders to my fish all the time. i agree on them being the most venomous and having too small of teeth. i ate one for cryin out loud and it didnt faze me either. maybe it had to do with some form of insecticide or maybe it WAS the spider after all. who really knows. i feed my fish all sorts of odd bugs i catch around my house and havent had a problem. i have also seen fish eat bees...just my 2 cents
