I got a new black ghost a couple of hours ago. I currently have him in a 10 gallon tank, hes about 3 inches and i'm planning to shift him into a bigger tank as and when he grows. temperature is about 26 degree Celsius. He is the only one in the tank as i was scared to leave any other fish with him. He seemed fairly active in the shop but hes been sleeping on his side a lot since i got him home. he isn't really trying to hide either though i have a couple of places for him to hide. i was wondering if this is normal for these fishes? also i don't know how to feed him. i have freeze dried blood worms, tubifex worms and shrimps. i dot know how to get him to eat. hes the only fish in the whole tank and since they cant really see properly i don't know how to get his attention to the food. he did play with the air bubbles for a while and did move around the whole tank but is just sleeping on his side now from about 30-ish minutes and hes sleeping in a corner and not in any hiding place. It's 12 am now and he didn't eat anything since i got him. i know i'm probably just freaking out too much, but I've wanted this fish since 7 years now so he really means a lot to me and it would kill me if anything were to happen to him. i know people hand feed them and i want to, too. but don't know how to go about it. Also should i get tank mates for him or will he be fine being alone? I have another betta and was wondering if i can leave both of them together.

well if you cant address him first dont even think of tankmates right now. Secondly I hoped you have researched this fish prior to purchasing it, deffinately not for a beginner hobbyist. We need to know a few things before we can properly help you. What are your water parameters, filtration, water change schedule, substrate? I would say a 10 gallon is quite small even for a 3 incher.... and its much harder to control parameters in a smaller sized tank. Give him time as well..some fish wont eat for two or three days after getting them home. Let him settle. You got him two hours ago....Its very stressful for a fish to be bagged and brought home from a fish store plopped in a new tank.

Hiding and lying down are normal for them, but do as poster above says, and measure your levels.

Also, ditch the freeze-dried stuff, get your hands on frozen bloodworms; I guarantee he'll take them.

Then buy a huge tank, cause he's gonna need it

yes i did my research and the water is fine. But i didn't really get much information about their behaviors except that they like hiding a lot. I am planning to change the tank in a month. I've had fishes before, but basic ones. i guess i just freaked out too much. also i live in India so its a little hard to get your hands on proper nice food, but ill search for it and try to get it. i saw him playing after a while in the air bubbles so not too worried. also i'm going to do water changes every week or sooner if necessary. And i was planning to leave the betta after about 3 weeks, not right now. he seemed pretty active after that, and now i guess hes sleeping? The aquarium people here aren't that much of a help cause all they suggested was to use the dechlorinator and it would be fine so it was pointless to ask them anything. so i did wait to make sure the tank is set up properly before i got him. i have a fine gravel substrate now. and coming to food again, i dont know how to feed him. like should i put my hand in water and wait for him to get it ? or just put the food and wait for him to get it himself?
