I added a pair of Dovii to my pond today. Not sure if they are big enough to breed but I hope they do and establish a population. Really looking forward to seeing the male get huge.

Where do you live? Can they live in the pond year long?

FL yes I don’t see why not. I have several species in my pond 14 different species at the moment. I’ll get some underwater footage of these Dovii if they set up a territory to spawn.
Fingers crossed they spawn soon since there is always a risk in a pond. Birds, and otters can ruin my day quickly.

That’s awesome can’t wait for pictures. I bet he’ll get huge in there if he can avoid the predators. Minks ruined my day last year. One ate about 40 koi at my lake house pond. Some koi were from my grandfathers pond and pushing 30 years old

Sorry to hear that. I know the feeling especially when you may have raised the fish for several years.
The male and female came out to feed today on floating pellets. They are staying in a sunken pallet in about a foot of water. The male is already gill flaring the blue gill. The blue gill just turn their bodies broadside towards him and he doesn’t push any further. They also have all they can eat fat head minnows if they choose.
Would you all recommend adding any more Dovii to at least diversify the gene pool?

Sounds like a pretty sweet pond.

Always wanted to go fishing for wild Dovii, they sound like a blast

The Dovii are doing well they have moved to deeper water and appear to be content in a pallet structure. The male is showing some breeding behavior and doesn’t let the female go far out of his sight. They are feeding well on pellets and come swimming over as soon as they see me.
