Hello I have a 40 cm male dovii in a 120 gallon 4x2x2 aquarium with a Aqua one 2700 canister filter and 2 big air stones in a empty tank he is in the tank alone, he looks happy and eats well, is this tank good enough??
Unfortunately, most hobbyist believe 300g minimum for life. No experience myself, but I have seen the question answered many times. This is why I have never kept one yet. No room for a 300g
The tank is 3x as long as he is, and only 1.5x his length in width. He is a heavily-built actively swimming fish, not some inert lump of a catfish or long skinny eel-like thing. And he has much growing yet to do.
Actually, this is second thread within only a few hours that you have started asking the same question...and have gotten similar responses. Perhaps a third time will be the charm?
It will be alright for a little bit longer but you will need to upgrade very soon, the adult fish will be half the length of the tank eventually which isnt suitable for it unfortunately.
I have the same size tank and have considered pushing sizing to the edge too but your fish is going to be much too big for your current tank.
Guapato Mel offers his suggested tank size for Parachromis Dovii at ~500 gallons to reach their full potential. I think he’s kept them for decades very successfully.
However, I’ve seen people keep them in less than that, so YMMV.
