I was reading online and looks like it said it is possible. I have a 125 with discus and angels and a smaller tank with some dwarfs, just wondering if it would be possible to have thte two together? I know it would require alot of cover/caves/plants, but just wondering if anyone else has done it before? I have Apistogramma macmasteri currently and looking to get a few others? Input/experience?

I have kept several species of Apistos with angels before. As you mentioned, the trick is to make some areas inaccessible to angels with plants, dw, caves (cichlid stones), etc. Angels can be surprisingly nasty, but they don't usually "shoot to kill", and it's a fairly attractive combination if you handle it well.

yes very possible. sometimes you gotta do your own experience and not believe whatever you read. just cuz it didnt work for them doesnt mean it wont work for others.

im sure you also read that discus are hard to keep correct? well their not. just get them from a good source that has nice healthy ones and your a big step ahead.
often time people get crappy ones that are stunted and not in good health and when they get sick they think discus are hard to keep.

your tank is big enough to hold a few pair of dward cichlids. provide a few caves and plants.

I have also kept Discus, Angles and Rams together succesfully in the past and it was actually one of the nicest tanks I've ever had. As Peat mentioned plants, driftwood and caves so boundries can be established and the little guys can get out of the way. Actually I had relativly little interaction between the Rams and Angles, however the Angels could sometimes get a little too aggresive for the Discus. Overall it worked out quite well and was a beautiful display that is hard to rival once balanced.

Anyone got any pics of this? I would just like to see some tanks also of how you all created barriers....I know Discus aren't really that hard, I aready have 8 in my tank with some algels and rotkei sevs.... Keep the suggestions coming guys!

Sorry I have no pics to share. The tank was set up in the early 90's long before I owned a digital camera or even thought about taking pictures of my fish.

dwarf cichlids discus and angels are amazing together angels get aggresive but IME only to themselves, so if your angels get together with themselves, then i think you will be perfect. maybe get some rams they are amazing but make sure they come from good sources like nikond said about discus.

I'm not doing it currently, but in the past I've had more problems between the angels and Discus than the Apistogramma/Ram types and anything. Once in a while I'd come across a trouble making angelfish, but generally the combination worked very well. Blue Rams, cacatuides, borelli, agassizi....all no problems.

On the other hand, a pair of Kribensis that spawned in a community tank actually raised their young with Jack Dempseys and Raphael cats around. Those guys are tough!

good insights...I didn't figure it would be a huge problem, but I tried to introduce some small angels in a few weeks back, and only one survived before I got them out and placed them in a growout before i decide to try it again. I have 5 Apisto macmasteri and 2 of the 5 are like an inch, while the other 3 are a little over two inches. Just hope to not loose any of the little ones when i try and introduce them again. I got 2 cacatuides coming in tomorrow that are supposed to be around 2 inch, so we'll see what happens I guess. i have been adding more plants and made a small cave out of slate, but my BGK seems to think it is his summer home and alternates between there and a fake root in the tank, so hopefully he doesn't mind roommates...
