what is the easiest mouthbrooder to breed. which is easy to keep. and has no specific requirements. i am looking for a small mouthbrooding south/central american cichlid

Geophagus steindachneri are probably the easiest SA mouthbrooder I've kept. You could try some Gymnogeophagus as well. They need a little more care but are very rewarding.

If you want the true G.steindachneri you'll ask for the latin name. If it's a good source then they'll know. If not you'll probably get crassillabrus which grows considerably larger and is not a "dwarf". Hence why I learned latin names and stuck with that.

Another vote for G. steindachneri. They are actually sold by their latin name at the LFS so don't bother asking for the common name in most cases.

This species caught my eye when I noticed that they had bred in the 20 gallon display tank with a bunch of other cichlids but unlike other cichlid species, the Geophagus eggs were safe from harm.
