I've had an Eheim 2080 for several years now, I bought it used. It really is starting to give up despite a number of fixes. I think I just want to change it.

I saw the FX6 and was like...yes, that looks good...around the same size, maintenance looks easy and the flow rate is superb! I'm definitely going for that. BUT...then I investigated further...I couldn't believe that the media capacity is listed at 5.9L...that's less than HALF what I currently have in my Eheim 2080 (12L)!

So...I just wanted to know...is the FX6's 5.9L inclusive of the sponge around the outside, or is that not included? I was hoping to just move all my media over from the Eheim 2080 (putting it in filter bags for the Fluval). In the Eheim I use Substrat Pro (2 trays) and Eheim Mech (1 tray) as well as the disposable sponges.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Get a new Eheim. That way you won't be disappointed.

The thing that steers me clear of Eheim is their poor customer support. I bought a 2080 and had issues 1 year later and I could not get them to email me back! The only way how I got a return on my product was going through the LFS that I bought it and they were able to get it solved.

I have other Eheim products I like a lot, just giving my two cents on it.

2080 sucks.
Get a classic and you won't need customer support...

Yeah guys, I really don't want to go with another Eheim. I was really liking the look of the FX6. Add to that another Eheim Pro is like £300+ Which is lot more expensive than the FX6.

I'd just love to know how much of my 2080 bio media I could fit in the FX6 (if the sponges are included in that total or not basically).

Just one more thing for people with the FX6...I see people attaching a pipe to the top to do water changes (instead of putting anything in the tank), is this just a case of attaching and going? Thanks again.

I have tried both, and I personally like the FX6 better.

Also the FX6 came with all the filtering media.
