I took the impeller out just to see if there was any gunk on it. It was fine, but when I placed it back in I noticed that the black cylindrical magnet kept on sticking to one side. When I turned it on again I notice a clanking sound on the impeller every few seconds...

The filter was running fine, I took out impeller, put it back in, it rattles like crazy now
Putting the impeller back in doesn't seem like rocket science...but is there a chance I did something wrong?

It's possible you lost one or both of the black rubber bearings that hold the impeller shaft perfectly straight. One is located in the center of the pump cavity and the other is located in the pump cover latch.
Hopefully, your impeller shaft is in one piece, otherwise that is the problem.
