Could I use a pump from my Eheim 2262 canister filter submerged in a sump? What I'm reading it has 1262 pump but the sticker on the pump itself says 2262 and do not use submerged?
My Sicce sdc 7.0 started overheating and need a backup. Thanks!

I've seen this question before about the 2262 pump label saying do not use submerged but I can't find it at the moment. :irked:

I don't know if Eheim has changed anything recently though you may want to contact them directly. In my experience, I don't see why you couldn't use it submerged since I have done so on my older 1260 and 1262 pumps that came with the canisters.

Yes, I've taken the 2262 pump off my big Eheim canister filter, and it worked great as a submerged pump. But later on, I switched to a larger pump, eventually settling on an EcoTech Vectra M1 pump.

So I contacted Eheim support and they replied quickly -
"The 2262 labeled pump is a different version of the 1262 pump that is only included with the 2262 canister filter. The main difference would be the lack of prefilter sponge, plastic intake screen and sealing cover on the intake side of the 2262 version of the pump. I am unaware of any additional changes made to the pump based on the data I have on hand however being that the pump is labeled that it is not to be submerged unfortunately I cannot recommend doing so.

I believe pump is the same as 1262 and will use it submerged despite Eheim recommendation specially seeing other people doing so without any problems. Thanks

Thanks for posting their response, I had a feeling that was what they would say particularly about the not submerged comment.

I still think you are safe to do so though but take some precautions so that no debris can possibly get sucked into the intake or impeller. Either use a coarse prefilter or buy the Eheim plastic intake screen and prefilter separately.

Mine says "Do not immerse in any liquid" but I did it anyway because it was hermetically sealed same as my other Eheim 1260 pump. It worked fine. The same Eheim intake screen fits, but i used a DIY intake screen consisting of a PVC "compression" fitting that held a simple metal 1/8" hardware cloth screen. Nothing fancy.
