I've read some interesting opinions recently on one of the other forums relative to the performance of these large filters. To gauge the veracity of those opinions, I'd appreciate any feedback anyone has on these three filters.

got a pro 3 2180 and works great, easy to use, clean, setup etc, a little pricey but last forever from what i've heard, and not too loud either:headbang2

Yeah, I like my 2080's too, but I've heard a couple of people say they prefer the older model....... ??????

The 2080 is a great filter, but it lacks capacity compared to the 2260/2262. The 2260 and 2080 both have similar flow rates, but the 2262 is far higher. I prefer the 2262 to the 2080 for the flow rate, but the 2080 for ease of use. Both are good filters, and both have a home with me. I personally prefer the 2076/2078 filters over the 2080/2260/2262. The 2260 and 2262 are the same filter, but the 2262 has a different pump. The 2262 is also newer than the 2080 as far as release date, however, the design is older.

I have one of the 2260's, very good filter. Only thing that i was not happy with is that it did not come with quick disconnects. Very powerful and quiet filter.

I was and still am thinking of selling it because it does not fit well under my stand though.

So it is the flow rate and overall media capacity...... I had read somewhere that some people thought the newer versions didn't handle mechanical filtration well. That was strange to me (I've used both types).

Regarding your preference of the 2076, is that because of the variable flow rates, etc? I don't see much benefit in that unit over the 2080 in a heavily loaded cichlid tank where I want as much filtration as possible going balls out at all times! :naughty:

Let me know if you indeed want to sell it.....

A 2080 is equal in pure performance to a 2260 but is easier to use and clogs less quickly. A 2262 handles about twice the ammonia level of either due to the higher flow being possibly optimal. By far the biggest performance boost is due to the baskets in the 2080 being designed for Substrate Pro which offers more surface area then plain Substrate for bacterial colonization. The Pro3's are easier to use but the Classics are probably more bulletproof. I use mainly 2180's because I like Thermofilters due to the risks associated with internal heaters burning fish but I have both 2260's and 2262's and find both excellent choices. 2076/78's are having some issues with pump heads not sealing correctly and the actual flow rates when not on boost mode are in fact quite low (eg: a 2078 rated at 1850 lph max only does a actual 550 lph out of the box when placed in boost mode that rises to 1100 lph actual flow)

You do not have to have the pump attached to the top of the bucket it can be separate which should solve your height issue.

Howdy,

The 2080 is a great filter ... for 75 gal. From personal experience, I cannot recommend it for a bigger tank, please read HERE and THERE

The 2260 and 2262 are much more suited for /\/\onster tanks. I had my 220 gal in storage and am in the process of setting it up again now that we've moved. A 2262 will be my filter of choice.
