I was wondering if anyone ran a canister filter directly next to a fish tank.
My tank is 60"X18"X24" high...
If I place the canister next to the tank will everything work perfect or does the canister need to be under the tank?

Good question and I couldn't find an answer in the manual for the minimum installation height.:(

A lot of the Eheim canister filters I have info for generally recommend a minimum of 20" from the bottom of the filter housing to the rim of the tank though this distance does depend on the filter model.

The biggest problem may be a priming issue. Your cheapest option is to build a stand with cement blocks and plywood or 2x4 top to gain more height. Just my opinions!

it has been like this for 1 year and 8 months so i will say has been working quite well...

but if i were to compare to the one next to it which is filtering a 2.5ft tank above ... i will say the bottom one is working slightly less efficiently... based on the power of water from outlet...

I'm thinking I'm gonna try a small Eheim on the floor!
Then add 2 Seachem Tidal 110 on the back.
Did you make the hoses very short so there is no looping?
Thanks so much for your advice buddy!

Yes, shortening the hose increased the flow rate and allows easier priming... with a long hose I had problems just trying to prime the canister and outflow was noticeably less powerful
