Hi guys, so I have a Electric Blue Acara and a Green Terror. They occasionally show breeding behaviors. Especially the Green Terror. He would shake like crazy and sometimes bite on something and shake. Meanwhile, the Electric Blue Acara seems like it's mimicking the Green Terror. Is it possible that they can create a hybrid cichlid?

Yes I had a female EB acara paired up with a male GT. They laid eggs several times and they were fertile but none ever survived since they were in a community tank with large roseline and a salvini. The gas always got eaten at night

Was the GT aggressive towards the EB Acara? At times the GT would nip on its fins and bother it. I'm not sure if it's trying to show aggression or it wants to breed. How did your EB Acara behave? I'm curious since I've never crossing.

Is it normal that they gang up on other fishes? My EB Acara is usually peaceful but now it's getting a little aggressive.

yes it's normal. They will claim / defend part of the tank as their territory before spawning. what size tank are they in? how many fish are in there and what are the other fish in the tank?

They are in a 50 gallon. And I have a Geophagus Jurupari and a Frontosa. The EB Acara and GT have been ganging up on the two.

Also, they ocassionally peck the rock I put into the tank and shake. Is that a sign? How long will they take to start spawning?

they are cleaning the rock as a potential spawning site. The female will lay eggs and the male will fertilize them. Not sure how long it will be since it could be tomorrow or 3 weeks from now. Once eggs are laid the female most likely will hover over them and fan them while the male guards the perimeter of the territory. the eggs should be kind of a amber color for about 3 - 4 days. if they turn white they are not fertile. the eggs will hatch and they will most likely dig a pit where they move the wigglers to. after a few days they should become free swimming. during that time they will make living in this tank very hard for the other 2 and chances are the pair might remove them for you (kill them) if they see them as a threat even though they are on the other side of the tank.

Also a Juripari, Frontosa and GT will all outgrow a 50 gallon tank and should be kept in something bigger for life
