I have had an electric catfish for a little over a year now and he's grown a little since I've had him but not much. He's currently around 6inch I would say. Do they normally have a slow growth rate? He eats good. Also he's in a 55 gallon by himself.

Mine was like that too, roughly 1"-2" a year. From reading of others, IIRC, I have a similar impression. But there are (now) 19 species in the genus. I'd not be surprised if some grew faster than others.

my guy is supposed to be dwarf. He is at 18 inches and if he stays that size will be a "dwarf." He grew probably at least an inch per month. I think he was 3 inches or so when I got him. There are two major groups of E cats. One group does not get bigger then 6 inches or so and there are a couple species in the smaller group

That's a great growth. Do you know the names of the species in the two groups? Or is this just the experience?

Ok thank you. My e cat seems to have a slower growth rate and he's only at 6inches so maybe he's in the smaller group.

the smaller group is rather rare but out there. Does the lateral line make it all the way to the caudal fin or does it only go 75% of the body?
