just got a new elephant nose (gnathonemus petersii) and i set up a bunch of hidin spots, but he just stays out in the open. i dont know if this is normal for them cause i heard they were really timid. heres a pic. P.S. he's about 3.5-4 inches.

i've seen them hide but most of the time from what i've seen they stay out in the open

The more safe places to hide, the more a shy fish stays out in the open.

yes, hes in the same tank as the eel. but my 6 inch clown knifefish pulverized it last night, i walked downstairs and the CK had it by the neck even thought it was to big to eat. he is still doing well cause i put a divider in and i hope he'll survive. here's a pic.

hes torn up pretty bad and the wound on its neck is pretty deep, but it is acting pretty normal and is looking for food too, so i think i will probably be ok

yeeeesh, that doesn't look good. Elephant noses and most mormyrids should stay in solitary, species, or community tanks. They are waaaaay too fragile to hang around with most cichlids and knives

yeah now hes in his own little section of the tank. and i think the knifefish attacked because of the elephant nose's electrical impulses.

or cause knives are predators and small elephant noses look tasty. who knows. hope he pulls through

the elephant nose was actually way too big to be eaten and the knife was latched on the side.
P.S. there are many smaller fish in the tank and the knife hasn't bothered any of them
P.P.S. i know sooner or later they will be eaten
