Manufacture: Emerald Creek Garnet (Idaho) - Opti Minerals Inc.
Weight: 50lb (bought 3)
Cost: $20 Portland, OR- Kleen Blast
Mesh Grain Size: 36

Just an experiment to switch over to garnet from gravel. It's time as I feel more comfortable feeding medium size sinking pellets now.

We'll see how the polys adapt to this new change. Coloration is drastic for dry, wet, and in the tank. The light reflection off substrate is manipulative too as you will see below. It's pretty damn purple yo!!! Ube......

I kinda like the purplish red. :) Thanks for posting the to scale pic and substrate info. Will be interesting to see how the polys respond to it. Are you going to do before/after pics as the weeks progress?

The last pic almost looks a neon purple. Is that how it looks in the tank?

His sand looks better than my old purple red garnet.
But his sand does remind me of when I had dim bluish white lights in my tank. Probably could pull off that same shade of purple if I used bright blue lights. :D Definitely digging the purple garnet though.

Here is Tokyogasmask's garnet sand under diff lighting.

*** We'll see how the polys react to this purple.

Full tank shot
*** Will do when I get home. Only placed 2 out of 3 bags in and It was still cloudy this morning. Didn't rinse it last night. My bad....

Just to note guys/gals. Emerald Creek Garnet from Idaho is widely available. It's actually a Canadian Company in Ontario who is selling this particular garnet (Opti Mineral Co.) The raw products are mined in Idaho. Barton red garnet is mined in India. This is the same stuff name 'Idaho Purple' on Ebay and amazon that are inflated per lb. prices.

I actually really like the electric purple :) . If you and the polys end up liking it, I wonder if there are easy ways of finding or getting it in Florida. Might try to go for purple instead of red.
