This is awesome Justin!!
Damn bro, can't wait to see this finish, but the build itself is very interesting aswell!
GJ!
Thanks bro
some progress for you guys.
aclockworkorange decided he wanted to order a grey colored background so he told me to hang onto this one. My sons and I spend allot of time together and I thought this would make a nice project with them and good practice for me with the big backgrounds. My father gave me his 10 gallon a little while back that he used for koi fry. This is a 3rd generation tank, my dad, me and my boys.
Only a true MFK'er would pimp a 10 gallon
The basic idea, a small tank I can incorporate plants into with a nice background.
I took a stash of rocks from my father pond last time we were down there so I will use a few of these as well.
The background closeup. I like the rock pattern in this on.
We got the tank cleaned up yesterday and ready to install.
The silicone I used. I figured since it was a small application, I would use a small tube. < stupid idea.........
It was so hard to squeeze the silicone out of the tube I would have been better off with GE and the silicone gun like I always do. Lesson learned. I'm glad I started with a small background.
My 7 y/o hamming it up for the camera. He helped me measure everything out. The thinline backgrounds are scored on the back to make it easier for a clean cut. Killer idea and it did make it allot easier. Like coloring in the lines lol..
The score marks close up. You can see the pattern if you click on the pics. Thery a high rez so you can zoom waay in.
first 3D background cut outside, I cut it from behind with a hack saw and the fronts side looks perfect, no snag marks or anything. I tested using masking tape on some scrap pieces and I would not recommend using marking tape on these backgrounds. You could never tell from looking at it but it does remove some of the surface paint.
More pics in a sec...
