Filter sock vs filter pad

I have been using two stage filter pads and i still have small particular floating in my tank. Would filter socks be better?

short answer yes

the best solution is to put the socks after the pad. that way you aren't using up fine particulate filtration of the sock with the bigger chunks that the pad can get.

That's my problem 90% of the particals floating around in my tank is fine. About the size of water flies and smaller. I am going though a two stage filter pad a day and it still is not picking up the smaller particals. I use a pvc over flow so not much of the poop and such does not make it that far. I suck them out every other day. Then gravel vac once a week.

how about laying some Floss on top of your pads?
