It may or may not work. I have had my fire eel for 3 weeks now and he didn't escape. They may escape if they fell scared or threatned. Ao I'd say cover with something if you are going to try it.
Ok, guess I'll scratch that one then. The tank has driftwood coming out of the water 3ft above the top of the tank and I don't want to remove that to put a top on just for this fish.
I was trying to think of a few larger fish to put in with my rb pacu. Right now the pacu's tankmates are a bunch of defferent tetras, plecos and a few angelfish. I've always kept a bunch of small-medium fish with my pacu without the pacu bothering them. I was wanting to trade in the small fish (probley about 60 small fish) and get a few larger fish that won't hurt my pacu. The pacu will go into a heated pond in probley about 1-2 years and I will probley give him silver arowanas as mates for the pond. He is about 14" right now and still has plenty of room in the current tank.
yea the nickname for aros is actually flying monkeyfish so you definitley need a cover, just go to the hardware store and get enough screen to cover the top and support it by stapleing it to wood that match the demensions of the tank, ubt leave room for hardware
I can tell you from personal experiance that Fire Eels will jump out of the tiniest hole. I bring them in for sale here in the Vancouver market and I have lost 2 from them getting out of a covered acrylic tank. They went out through the overflow. Keep these guys well covered!!
