Whats up everyone, i was wondering where the good tropical fish stores in and around seattle are located. So far i've only checked out kings discus. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

the "Fish Store" up north of U-district. Great selection, but really expensive. They are super knowledgful people also but be prepared for a little attitude...

Yes I love that place... and yes, they are actually named just "Fish Store" haha. prices aren't super bad if you catch the sales...

there is a large list of Fish stores that I like to go too...

A Place for Pets (Burien)

Sierra Fish and pets (Renton)

QT Aquatics (Seattle in china town) ***I am unsure about the way I feel about this place... I have seen some neat fish, but some mistreatment of the fish is very obvious.

Pet-Pourri (Everett)

Bridges Pets (Snohomish)

Midway Pets (Kent/Des Moines)

Tropical Fish world (Sumner)

Aquarium Paradise (Lakewood)

I know those are not all Seattle locations, but Great places to go just to check out some neat setups and sometimes really rare fish pop up sometimes. :D

I also like dennys pet world in totem lake (kirkland) that is the one closest to our house. Usually they just have the usual boring fish but every now and again they get some really cool ones in. And the main aquatics guy, jesse, is really helpful and knows quite a bit and wont tell you just what you want to hear. I love king discus, he is by far my all time favorite. He always has new fish coming in and out and if you want something specific just talk to him and if you get to know him he will try to get it for you. There is also a blue sierra fish and pets in factoria/bellevue and they have some cool fish from time to time but the manager is a huge biotch. Also in china town there is Liams. He has really really cheap fish but the store is pretty much disgusting in my opinion. He has so many fish crammed into small tanks and it is just dirty. I have purchased a couple fish there and they turned out to be healthy but I feel bad for all of his fish :( Another thing too add to QT aquatics is that they are really over priced and I stopped going there after I saw the "tattooed blood parrots" It made me so sad. I don't know if you have ever seen those but it also saddens me. My suggestion is keep going to king discus, get to know Kevin the owner and you have the opportunity to get some awesome fish!

aquarist world is my fave. Michael used to own kings, sold it to his brother, and opened aquarist world. need a 3ft niger cat, or 2? he's got em. want to see some 2ft koi?

I thought I knew a lot of fish stores! I am happy that there are a couple other shops I can now go visit.

I agree about QT Aquatics as I said above, The mistreatment there is obvious! I saw those poor blood parrots and felt terrible for them.

I was disappointed to see some "dyed" tiger barbs at one of my favorite LFS. They were bright pink and orange, basically neon... I talked to one of the employees and told him I was disappointed to see those fish... He just shrugged it off like it was no big deal...

Oh well...

id honestly say go to the Fish Store. Very different selection often, they get new fish in weekly. Very smart workers, i have never gotten a bad response to questions asked. Just make it known that you know what your talking about and not like a mom that walks in with her toddler. haha

I find the opposite at The Fish Store. They have selection sometimes, however their knowledge is that of the internet board warrior. Whatever they've read is what the preach there, not actual practice. They recommended freshwater clams, would be fine with clown loaches. They also recommended nerite snails with clown loaches. Watched them sell 3 glow danios or whatever for $9.99 each for a little girl's first 1 gallon fish bowl. If they had come to my store(Conway Tropical Fish), They'd of walked out of the store with a 10g, with a basic filter setup and some normal danios. IMO, they're money hungry.

Basically do what you should do anyways, do your own research before purchasing a fish. I would have to say my time is best spent at aquarist world and a place for pets. If I'm in the seattle area. King's discus is like a mini version of aquarist world basically.
