I'd like to get a hold of a flathead catfish. Seems catfish I find in the river are always huge. I want a little one to grow. Does anyone know where I could get one to have shipped here or are there any super anglers that could find me a small one. Can pickup in state (Louisiana). Prefer shipping if out of Louisiana. Man, where were you a few years ago when I had several thousand available that I hatched out? Your best bet is to use a minnow trap, at night, with at least a 2" entryway. Catfish bait, squid, or shad will lure any hatchlings in. This year's hatchlings are now 3 months old so you'll likely get a small one this way. The baits will also attract crawfish so, you'll have yourself a snack as well when you pull the trap in the next morning.
Your odds in finding someone selling single small ones is not good. Your best bet is to catch one yourself or go where folks are fishing and offer someone a few bucks for one they catch. The bunch I had available were from collected egg masses during a noodling trip.
