Honestly I think mail order is great if your lfs is crappy. If you do mail most of the time QT is a must. I've been lucky enough to have a new lfs that has great stock and everything looks healthy.

Also I dont seem to have a problem maintaing the water quality in my QT...the readings seem to be good so far...I will be adding a "Checker Board Wrasse" in the QT tank soon...

Also this is random...on the new show mega moves...they are currently transporting 2 silvertip sharks....looks epic If an yone wants to watch it on "Nat Geo Wild"

Maybe, maybe not on him doing his job. You are right that there has to be more to it. I have gotten my fish from them and knew they were coming and had lots of problems too. I think there is a combination of things with PIA. The water quality of his holding tanks are a big issue I think. Nothing like a QM or Fosters setup with perfect water.

I will definitely do mail order again too, but not thru PIA. If they come from good conditions and are boxed and shipped properly then there shouldn't be problems.
Well, this is true. If there was a "funny" means of collection, that could have contributed. I have never seen a fish acclimate in such a funny way. He was upright and swimming in the bag, and yet, once his bag water was put into a larger container (more footprint, yet more than enough water to swim upright) he chose not to, even after being in there for an hour and a half.

He seemed to recover however...and ate with vigor eventually.

Who knows...so I guess a better way to put it would be: "I wouldnt have ich in my system, my blue tang wouldnt be shredded, and both of my tangs wouldnt have HLLE had he asked me if I wanted the fish he sent me, and if he had even told me that he was sending it."

Yea, but what kind of fish are you keeping in QT, and how long are you keeping them there?

Dustin and I do two weeks...and tangs arent like wrasses. Larger fish, and they are heavy bioload to begin with.

Ya, I got you on the PIA. Weird, weird things going on there. Fish eating with vigor and looking ok and suddenly dying.....sketchy.

I actually do a month in QT.

This is another thing I like about the site, there is a good little core group of people, and I feel that for the most part we all earnestly care about one anothers issues and setups...

No more pictures yet...gotta get the last of the fish in...sometime this month of the arapaima etc doesnt set me back too much.

i like to think we care.

flesh. started assembling everything last night. already a few issues.

1) the only way to get the sump in the stand was to slide it in from the top. ill never get it back out with the tank on the stand.
2) the water level on my sump is about 10". the skimmer needed to be raised about 3" with a stand so the outlet is just above the water line . that puts my skimmer height at about 26 1/2" . my stand in only 27 1/2" inside height. there is not enough room to remove the collection cup.

not good.

You need your own 125g thread!

Couple things - no matter what this will always happen during builds.

Two...you probably shouldnt need to remove your sump...lets hope you like it.

Is there anyway to lower the water level?

Dustin and I measured my cabinet like three different times to make sure that my skimmer would fit...and it still didnt.

I took a saw to the top of my collection cup (Kinda sketch with a EV400) but had to do what I had to do to get it into the sump. Its in there now, and I just put plastic wrap over the top of it with a rubber band...dont know how much this reduced efficiency, but I still pull lots of nice dark gunk.

i will start my own thread but i just wanted to mention a few things to u.

there is no way to lower the water level in the chamber 1 and 2 and 3 is the return section.

i dont think i want to hack up my skimmer just yet. i think i can lower the stand about 1 inch. i told jeff at lifereef i wanted the stand at 3" and he made it 4" for some reason.
