No...I dont think they are a "ticking time bomb"...one of the harder things to keep but we have a culture of BTA's around here that has been splitting and living for over a decade. Not even the best h2o quality, light, or feeding even. What are your thoughts on anemones being ticking time bombs? I see you're planning for a bubble tip. I suspect them to be the most forgiving and easy to care for, I am just now sure what the long term success is and would be interested to hear your thoughts. I personally would love a rose bta.
I agree with you and heath that BTA is the way to go for most people....they are well adjusted to life on our captive reefs.
Had the same thing happen with my mushies. All anemones need proper lighting, water flow, feedings, and most importantly.... a mature tank. BTAs are, imo, the most forgiving anemone you can get. They are easy to feed, seem to tolerate a large array of lighting, and will host most clowns.
I want a BTA, but I am almost sure my maroons will love on it to death... literally. My tomatos were so desperate for one that they would hide in my fuzzy mushroom garden, love on them too aggressivly, and constantly force them to split.
