Hi! I'm new to this forumn, but it seems nice so far. I recently got this Male flowerhorn 2 months ago. This is

from Australia, so uh.. I can confirm it was over $500. Anyways, the male's father was sold at a VERY high price. Was apparently a 'Super Red Dragon king Kamfa' but his head was not big. He had a HUGE body. His head will grow, but it won't be as big as the other flowerhorns out there. Apparently my flowerhorn was bred specifically for his body, and not his head. Curious on the pricing and breed of him.

I also got him a missus to have around. She arrives on friday. Since the male flowerhorn was bred specifically for his body, if the mothers father was a King Kamfa, will her fry have a possibility of becoming a King? As well as inherit more pearling and colour? I understand that some fry will not be perfect, and the chances of getting a 'Perfect' fry from a batch is quite rare and hard, but I'm just curious.

They look to be more red dragon. Red dragons are subset of zz flowerhorns. Kamfas are made by crossing zz with synspilum/parrot. Then next generations are made by crossing offsprings with zz. So by those terms there is nothing like super red dragon king kamfa. Sellers call their fish whatever that helps them make a sale.

Your both fish look to be red dragon or at least show the most traits of.

Ohhh, completely understandable. What would you grade them? If I were to breed the female with a kamfa, will it become a kamfa ZZ cross?

Average price I see for most adult flowerhorns in USA Southern California area is $60-$250
Sometimes higher but usually under $150

I’m sure there some top notch ones that go higher but the average I see is in this range
There fairly common and readily available here

Yeah, definitely. Australia is pretty hard to find. Most sellers are located in sydney or have been imported from Thailand and the price get's bumped up by like $200 :l There was a flowerhorn that was selling for 2.2k AUD and sold out in an instant at a local fish store I went to one time. If you own a flowerhorn, or know lots about them, could anyone give intel on how to grow the flowerhorns head? He's not very agressive at all, really not agressive. If anything, he's scared of my hand. He's in a 110 gallon, I just really want to see the potential of his hump.

I know there’s always a price bump when things are hard to get, I’ve read Australia is pretty strick
On lots of fish I wasn’t even sure fh are even legal there ?
As far as the head goes you can read for hours and in the end genetics play the biggest part imo , next pristine water and a good turn over rate of water
Your 125 should be flowing 900-1100 gph to be optimum you can get away with less yes but that would Be best , next would be quality food and not crap with fancy pics , lastly I’d say to try to play with him For a mins a few times a week to work up the aggression and maybe the kok will
Pop out a bit more
Using a mirrors helps or chasing your finger across the glass once he’s settles he should warm up more

Flowerhorns are legal, few are sold. Just Asian arowana is illegal for trade. I know for sure that with his genetics, his Kok isn't meant to grow very large. But I never got to see the mother, so anything can happen (I damn hope..) His water used to be crystal clear, his parameters are absolutely spot on. We suction all the poop and gunk out every day. The water isn't as clear though anymore, and that sort of throws me off. We feed him frozen thawed shrimp, or OF pellets. Trying to move into OF pellets to enhance hump growth. He loves to chase me around the tank, and expects me to whip out the mirror for him to chase around, which I do try to do occasionally. Whenever I'm not around, he's facing the heater or near one even though the water is 29 degrees. Or he's lounging at the top of the water staring up there. No idea why. I come to pet him, and he bumps down into the water to shy away from me, and then comes back, and isn't at the top for me to touch him no more. He's never ever bitten me though, and I'm terrified to put my hand in there , since he's an 8 month old baby now and will probably rip some skin !!
