I am thinking of getting a flower horn or two, but I want to have some tankmates in the tank as well.

1stly, what fish can they go with when they are smaller than 4-5" amd then as an adult.

Also, what light do i need to bring out the best colours.

Thanks. And if you have any tips for a begginer flowerhorn keeper I would love some more tips. (I have looked at threads up the top and even though they say no tankmates, I don't plan on having top quality FH)

I suppose I should better explian my situation? Reading through my first post it sounds as if it's lacking information.

Okay, i'll start over.

At my LFS, there is two flowerhorns. The LFS is really a small family operated business, so the FH are obviously very low grade. I am interested to see what they will turn out like anyway.

So ATM i'm thinning out my stock, so will have a totally free 4' 100gal. Just need to set it back up again. Well I wanna get these FH asap, so I have a 20gal with 1 angelfish (4-5"), 3 yoyo loaches, 2 bristlenoses, 1 pictus catfish, and 1 firemouth. I would like to put the FH in this tank until my 4' is set up.

So I would like to ask, will the 2-3" FH live in the 20gal until the 4' is ready (2-3 weeks)? Also what tankmates for the 4'? I was hoping I could go for a pair of Synspillum, maybe a pair of Firemouths, possibly a mota?

Thanks.

Good for you to support you're local! I feel the same way. 100gal is a decent sized tank. Whatever you do end up with in the tank, fish wise, be sure to put in small, medium, and large enclosures for others to escape any beatings.

If the FH(s) you're going to get are still small enough you could put them in the 20 for a very short term, and would think you won't have any issues. But... (you new it was coming) If the FHs are close to the same size? Better be careful. I would not recommend the Angel fish. His fins will be toast, Syns are generally not aggressive so watch them and same with the Firemouth.

When I got my FH he was only about 3/4" big and I put him in a 55g with a load of Africans. It worked out really well until I got bored of them and got rid of all of them. I left my Sinodon cat with the FH along with my pleco for along time. Finally after my FH got to about 5" he became the biggest pr_ck and had to be moved. The enclosures saved my Catfish. And the pleco jumped out of the tank to be found 4-5 days later...

Yes folks on another forum have convinced me it's a bad idea. The reason being the FH too agressive for the other fish. I think I will go with s small CA cichlid community.

flowerhorns are ok with blood parrots pleco, and preferrably female and male flowerhorn together. when they are young. and you can always block them off, as far as the 20 gallon goes i wouldnt recommend it. i had convicts, oscars, and african cichlids in 20 it was a warzone. fishes commited suicide because fh was giving them stress.

Will a FH and 5 clown loaches for with anything else in a 125 gallon tank
