I've been wondering if flowerhorn's aggression could be caused indirectly by us feeding them feeders..
I've a flowerhorn once that I fed with feeders most of the time & it killed every fish that I put in with.. even killed a peacock bass twice its size.. :irked:
For the flowerhorns I'm keeping now, I've stopped feeding feeders & they don't kill everything they see, maybe a little aggression but not to the extend of killing other fish..
What are your thoughts?

i think they are territorial and it causes aggression but some fish are to big for them to do anything about so they leave them alone and if they are slow enough they might peck them once or twice

Hahah this is totally flawed.. well for everyone ive kept. (which is about 5)

Ive grown one particular one from 2cm to the 12cm now.. I put it in my main SA/CA cichlid tank (numerous times) at about 8cm and it proceeded to tail slap and mawl a dominant male jack dempsey at 20cm.

Theyre just angry fish, feeder or not.

I have met ONE flowerhorn that 'tolerated' other fish - funnily enough it looked crap so its gone now..

99% evil, 1% tolerant id say.

Mine has never even heard the word 'feeder' and he's mean. Wants to eat everyone's face off that get close to the tank. They're just aggressive fish. And they're hybrids that have all been tank raised so they have no fear of people or anything else. Sort of like a bottle-raised bull that never gets castrated. Mean with no fear lol

I agree that Flowerhorns are just flat out aggressive.....Some more than others....I have been breeding ZZ Flowerhorns for the last year and some are aggressive and others are just evil devils that cant be kept with any other fish. Never have given any of my flowerhorns feeders from fear of disease.

Mine bit me the other day while I was messing with the overflow. Little bastard.

Feeding time (no feeders btw) when he's really hungry he'll almost jump out of the tank when I put my hand over the water to drop some pellets in. He'll routinely get 3/4's of the way out.

I have 2 fry in my sump. One is 1/2 an inch, the other is slightly smaller. The 1/2 incher flares, tail wags, and chases the other fry. Very funny when it attacks my hand as well. It has had nothing but flake food and frozen bloodworms it's whole life.

I think the aggression is due to the fact that they're hybrids of aggressive fish. Example: I have a big male chocolate. Very peaceful. When I put in a female chocolate, he gets territorial. Maybe since most FHs view any cichlid as a potential mate, they go nuts with just about everything. So it could be that they're just super horny!

I've owned a Flowerhorn before and he was mean to everything except my male Chocolate Cichlid. They are just ultra aggressive fish which is why I don't keep them anymore
