for snapping turtle owners. age/size questions

how old is your snapper and how big is it? ive had mine for 6 years and its carapace is 8 inches top to bottom.

im wondering if its slow or regular growth speed.

I have raised probably a dozen or so to adulthood and it only took about 4 years for them to get to be between 6-8" once they reached this point though, they all slowed down quite a bit. The Big ally snapper I cared for for 5 years only gained 10lbs in the time that I was with him. He started off at 130lbs and is currently 140lbs and 43 years old.

ive noticed that he was slowing down growth wise. he sheds plates once in a while. that 43 year old turtle sounds like a true monster. must see

i have a 14 month old common snapper which i got as a hatchling last year at 1.5-2" carapace length. it is now 4.5-5" CL.

Mine grew as follows:
got as baby 1"
after year one 4"
after year two 7"
after year three 8"
then gave to someone with a pond.

got my alligator snapper back in may of 2000 the size of a 50 cent piece. a year later he was 4.5 inches in shell length. at 2 yrs he was 8 inches. at 3 yrs he was 12 inches. at 4 yrs he was 16 inches. growth has slowed down since then he really filled out after that. now at 10.5 yrs of age he has about an 18 inch shell length.

Alli snappers grow so freakin slow, ive had my group of 6 that id be suprised if they grew an inch a piece in a year... and there really really overfed lol
