I have some before that never changes and had a bluesih color with bars or unchanged. I bought this one thinking it may stay unchanged but it turned out to be a piebald... first pic was when it was about 2" second pick is current about 5" and beginning to thicken.

Devils are born gray bodied. They then fade into their adult colors as tey grow. Some do it sooner some later on. The process can take a while so the one that shows the black spots is still in the middle of this transition. :)

Maybe I fail at using search functions, but I did try. I figure this might be a good thread to ask since it's already on midevil coloration.

Is it normal for creamsicle colored devils to never have a peel/fade? Or is fading maybe a sign of cleaner genetics/lower F#? I got my little 1.5" creamsicle that has grown to about 4" in short time, no pattern change at all. Do creamsicle types ever change their patterns? I do find midevils all over my area from baby 1" up to full grown 10" fish and all seem to be white based with different orange patterns. Have only ever seen one adult fish that was full orange as most people on here post when I first got back into the hobby and was labeled as midas.

I'm positive i've read something about this on here before, but again my search skills leave much to be desired.

Do you mean the orange and white creamsicles? Those have already faded. Fading/peeling only refers to juvrniles in gray barre color fading to orange/creamsicle/white/piebald ect.

Not at all. Midevils, red devils, midas all have very ever changing colors and patterns.

Yes some change their patterns greatly and some might not. I have seen orange fish with some white patches at 1" grow into complete white fish at 10" you just never know what your going to end up with as adults which in my opinion is part of the fascination of raising these great fish.

Orange adults usually are fully orange all their lives. Or maybe had a bit black patches as it faded And faded completely orange in the end. Then again ive also seen completely orange pure midas be orange all the way to 5-6" then as they grow they develop white areas.

Rarely Some do not change and remained barred. I have personally have owened 2 of these. These kept their bars as adults and their bodies were a greyish blue. Google Barred red devil images to see some pics.

I got mine at about an inch and he was a yellow orange color. As he developed, he went through a phase where certain area developed black smudges. His lips for example looked like he had black lipstick on buyout wasn't like that when I first got him.

Then he went back to the orange color and now you can tell his body is starting to lighten up while his face is keeping the dark orange color.
