Just thought I would share this. Was doing some random googling after picking up another decent sized spanner barb for the 300g today. Obviously a trade in and at 6 inch fully grown .. or is he, bear in mind I now 7 of these assuming max size is 18cm as wrote everywhere on the net...
Let's hope it's a freak.

I rate these highly, aside from the lack of impressive colour they are great, the pit bull of the barb world. They go in like red bellies on mussel and silversides... not sure if barbs have any teeth at all? They do great with large aggressive cichlids in the 300.

Anyone else kept them?

I tried for months to locate a spanner barb to add to my 125 gallon all barb tank. Had no such luck. Still might try and get one to throw in there (I keep searching all the lists). I was initially worried about throwing a lone new barb in this tank, as they can be quite rambunctious. But, since you describe spanner barbs as you did, I don't think I'd have a problem.

I will note when I had four Inc a smaller one they killed him... it does note a minimum of 5-6 to keep them.
