I was just wondering if anyone feeds their Cichla the frozen raw shrimp from Wal-mart. I was thinkin about picking some up, but was told they contain bleach, and would be harmful if fed to my fish. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks.

They don't contain bleach.

You can feed this shrimp to them. Market shrimp is one of the most fed foods.

Get raw shrimp. The cooking process dilutes the nutrients in all foods, so raw is better.

I don't feed any of the cooked seafoods to my fish. Most don't like the boil seasonings. I've been buying the 2lb bags of frozen raw shrimp for decades. The fish love them and I've never had any problems with the raw shrimp. BTW, I just looked at a bag and it doesn't say bleach anywhere. Considering the shrimp is intended for human consumption, and a significant portion of the population is allergic to bleach, the label would have to show if the shrimp was indeed processed with bleach additives above the levels found in municipal tap water.

even if it was true that they contain bleach, soaking them in water treated with prime or some other conditioner would neutralize any bleach. It really isn't a concern you should worry much about. the tails of the shrimp pose a bigger threat than anything

My lfs owner told me not to feed them seafood meant for humans because they havent been gamma-radiated and harms them.Sum bloke e knos fed his fish chopped up mussels an lost 400 quid of fish. I'm very dubious about that tho I think he just sayin that tho so he gets my money instead of tescos i mean they there is no gamma-ray in the wild is there? don't try 2 blag a blagger fool!
