I was at my local fish store today - a place I have dealt with for over 20 years - same owner, breeds some of his stock and brings some in of course. Mostly deals in salt water and cichlids. I was looking at picking up some juvenile Africans - unsexable ,and I was wondering about the ratios I might end up with at random.
I said, "well I guess it is 50/50". He said "no it is about 70% female and 30% male". I thought he meant for this particular species but he said that was across the board for cichlids.
I have bred Africans for 20 years but always sold fry before they were sexable so have no idea if his claim is true. If so that would be a ratio of 2:1 favouring the females. Have any of you heard similar stats?
