Anyone have a pic of one. I just bought a few, and am curious what they turn out to look like fully grown. I know a lot of fish don't necessarily keep all their color, and markings when they grow up.

Im a pictus keeper. Depends what pictus you are talking about. I do not have spotted pictus anymore but I know at adult size they looks just the same as when you buy them, if you get them at normal size, sometimes I see small babies, their faces just change a little is all, eyes dont seem as big. They usually stop 4-5", I have yet to see one hit 6" as they claim they can get. They stay pretty small.

On the other hand I have a white pim and a spotted pim. When I first brought them home they looked just like a spotted pictus but darker in color, more gold instead of silver.

They are pretty much done growing. Spotted Pim is 6-7" the white pim is 6" Their heads just got more wider and the whiskers are so long lol

Oh btw when these guys growl it is something else. Sounds like a low dog growl and if you have them in a bucket or something holding it, you can feel it vibrate. I felt spotted pictus growl and vibrate a bowl they were 3 and 4" these two pims of mine when I had them in that bucket and moved them it was loud and vibrated the bucket. I can hear it at times at night as I sit by the tank at my computer.

Ok the ones I just bought are the whiteish silver with black spots, and fairly long wiskers. The ones you posted pics of seem to have pretty good color, and design on them. Thanks for the pics.

Well maybe I need to rethink the kind of cat I keep. I want something in the 6" - 8" range. I guess I'll see how they grow for a while before I get anything else, but that is the kind I bought.

"Pictus" is actually one species - Pimelodus pictus, I believe, so there won't be any "types" of Pictus cats - but all of them, and relatives - Mystus, Pimelodus, etc, are great catfishes. I have noticed slow growth on these guys, but they are awesome.

Thanks Vinson :)

tknjk - if you like the look of the pictus family and like that 6-8" range why not go for the ones I posted pics of first. They look the same. just darker in color and reach the size you want. They are hardy and great cats to own. I just adore mine.

Often you find them for sale with spotted pictus but labeled four line pictus.

If I can find some around here I might just do that.
