I was fishing in the river yesterday and I saw a guy with a 18 inch gar that he had caught with a cast net. Any locals know hot spots? I'm looking to catch a few fry for my tank...

You can catch hundreds at the falls, but Ive never caught any small ones.

I went this evening and I caught two hybrids in the 7-10lb range and a striper about five pounds. Good fun, shoulda kept them to eat but I gave them away. :(

That's where I was- I went Friday night, got about waist deep and didn't fall over once! No luck for me though- too many people there. We were standing maybe 8 ft apart in the water, a line of us from the shore outwards. A lot of people casting from the bank too- a hell of a lot of snags, no fish.

I was there friday night too, when did you leave? I left at dark. I was the guy running down the bank every five minutes chasing the big fish I had on! hehe

And yes, it is hard to wade out there. Its fun though and youll soon accept that falling is inevitable and be ok with it!

Hit me up man, the river is HOT right now for the big hybrids and stripers. I may go tonight.

We left Friday at about 9:00- just as the sun got below the horizon. I went with my dad and he's a little older so we need to get past the mud and back up to the car before it gets too dark. I won't be able to go tonight, but tomorrow is looking good for me.

Yeah, but to be honest that graph is confusing and it doesnt always tell you when the water is good.

How are you liking the 'ville so far? The local fish club is doing a native collecting trip this coming up Saturday if you are interested. The site is the place I suggested and I was going to guide it but they are bringing down an expert on natives and he can only come Saturday...sadly Im getting married that day! :(

Whoa, congrats! I don't know of the native species here, but some of the darters look nice. Any chance of a baby gar? Please give me the info, I should be free and it sounds like fun. The link I posted was the lower mcalpine dam. I think you posted the upper last time and I didn't quite get it. The link to the lower is fairly accurate on how low water is and how far you cna walk out- at least based on the 3 times I've been there.
