Gar with other Gar?

Do Gars do better if they have another gar wth them? Wondering if they are a social fish? Advice from the members with multiple gars in their tank would help thanks.
The reason I ask is because I would like to get another gar to keep my current gar happy.
 
My two Floridas love each other. It's very strange... they lay together like puppies. I wasn't sure whether or not to add the second one, but I'm glad I did. It's neat to watch them interact. I'm not sure about adding different kinds of gar together though... maybe someone with some experience there will chime in.
 
Ive seen gars together in big groups. There is quite a few members that have mixed species as well. Florida's, tropicals and cubans all mixed in together. You just need a BIG tank.

Have a big tank...Just need a bigger 1 for more gars...:drool:
 
Gars do really great together. In fact, gars are probably the best tankmates for eachother. As said above, the only gar that really shouldn't fit really the good tankmate category for other gars is the Alligator gar. They are natural born killers and will attack just about anything.

lol my two gar lay like that as well, thats strange
 
theyre pretty much like bichirs.
will do fine alone,but also do great in groups.
they dont really sulk and stuff when alone.
they seem to NEED each others company like many grouping fish,but they seem to really like each other when kept together.
