Purchased as geophagus surinamensis. Need a positive ID. Also I paid $15 each. Was this a good deal?

I paid $9 each by one get one 70% off because it was boxing week sale, but I would have paid $15 for them

The midlateral spot is small enough that I'd say G. altifrons, which is typically mislabeled as surinamensis.

I see, and altifrons alone? I have one or 2 that show a small spot, the bars are kinda different on a few of them too. Im just guessing its individual pattern and that they are all the same species as they were from the same tank. Thanks Ryansmith83

G. altifrons are the only ones in the surinamensis that I know of which can show absolutely no midlateral spot.

But now that we've seen geos can hybridize, I guess all bets are off. If they're not wild-caught, they could be anything. :(

yeah in that case I`m going to guess they are altifrons, thanks for the advice I guess only time will show which locality. My red head Tapajós are wild caught, I am positive the Altifrons are captive bred.
