How do you distinguish the difference between the two when they are juveniles?

Damn near impossible until they reach approx 4". Iporangensis tend to be more elongated, and stay that way as they mature, while the Brasiliensis start to get a much more blocky build to them once they get in the 3.5-5" range. (especially the males)

with mine the brasiliesis have red lips and Iporangensis have blueish lips

My iporangensis have red lips. Iporangensis seem to have more red on their tail and fins.

Wow, I thought I was familiar with the geos but I'd never heard of the iporangensis. After doing a search on them, I now wonder how many small geos I've seen in the shop that I thought were brasiliensis but were actually those guys!

There's also a Red form of Geo Brasiliensis. You may want to study more on this strain as it may be the one you own. There may be more. I'm no expert.
